  1. Just bought a used Mk2 V6 manual TT from Audi Lincoln. After the first day I could hear a bizarre woshing sound from the engine when driven in low gear and revs. Returned it to audi 2 weeks after buying it and the mechanic confirmed by just reving the engine out of gear he could hear this strange subtle noise coming from the engine. After they have had it 5 days to remove the engine I am being told its the timing chain and tensioners. I am not impressed that it pasted their amazing Audi 100 multi point check and a fresh MOT by themselves. However after looking at the check list it looks as though they only check if lights and seats recline and dont bother testing the engine itself.

Does anyone out there know of any potential problems which can be caused by a faulty timing chain and what needs replacing or testing to make sure its ok. There seems to be pleanty on the mk1 TT. But nothing on the new Mk2 TT.
